G-WADI Holds Training Workshop in Khartoum
On February 17th – 18th, 2016 in Khartoum, Sudan, G-WADI held a Training Workshop on “Advances in Water Resources Management in Arid and Semi-Arid Areas”. The workshop was organized by the Water Research Centre of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Khartoum, in collaboration with the Regional Centre on Capacity Development and Research on Water Harvesting (RCWH) and the Sudanese National Commission for UNESCO. About 56 water professionals and students attended the event.
The workshop included applications of the PERSIANN (Precipitation Estimation from Remotely Sensed Information using Artificial Neural Networks) products developed at the Center for Hydrometeorology and Remote Sensing (CHRS), University of California, Irvine. There were also presentations on chemical and isotopic techniques for determination of groundwater recharge rates and age, geophysical techniques for groundwater resources, and other topics.
This training workshop was followed by a one-day Global G-Wadi advisory committee meeting on February 19th.
